A male police officer in his 40s, identified by the surname A and assigned to a police station in the South Gyeongsang Province region, has been arrested on charges of handing over personal information from the internal police network to a private investigator.

The Gyeonggi Bukbu Provincial Police Agency announced today (August 28) that it has arrested officer A on charges including the violation of the Personal Information Protection Act.

Officer A is accused of providing third-party personal information, such as addresses found on the internal police network, to a private investigator.

The private investigator who received the personal information from officer A was forwarded to the prosecution in police custody earlier this month.

Police are currently investigating whether officer A received money or valuables in exchange for the personal information, as well as the duration and frequency of the information leaks.
