Nvidia Jumps 8.7% to Fuel Tech Rally, Nasdaq Up 1.57%

New York stocks closed higher across the board on the 27th (local time), driven by Nvidia's strong earnings and the subsequent tech sector rally.

On this day, the Nasdaq Composite Index finished at 26,541.35, up 411.16 points (1.57%) from the previous session.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 105.56 points (0.20%) to close at 53,569.44, while the S&P 500 Index gained 55.29 points (0.72%) to finish at 7,730.99.

Nvidia surged 8.74%, leading the tech rally, after releasing a "surprise earnings" report after the market closed the previous day that beat market expectations.

Nvidia reported that its revenue for the second fiscal quarter (May to July) increased by 106% compared to the same period last year, reaching $96.22 billion (approx. 133.2 trillion won).

This figure exceeded the market forecast ($92.17 billion) by more than $4 billion, breaking record revenues for the 13th consecutive quarter.

Ryan Detrick of Carson Group said, "As demand continues to grow, it is clear that the AI boom is far from over."

In sympathy, Broadcom rose 4.49%, while SK hynix ADR and Intel gained 2.27% and 4.36%, respectively.

The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index, consisting of 30 major semiconductor stocks listed in the U.S., jumped 2.33%.

In addition to tech earnings, investors are closely watching a speech by Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh at the Jackson Hole symposium scheduled for the following day.

Amid higher-than-expected inflation indicators and rising long-term Treasury yields, attention is focused on what signals Chair Warsh will send regarding the future direction of monetary policy.

Oil prices rebounded for the first time in four days as expectations for negotiations between the U.S. and Iran weakened.

West Texas Intermediate (WTI) for October delivery rose 1.58%, and Brent crude for October delivery gained 2.12%.
