Presiding over an emergency meeting regarding the flood disaster in Nepal, President Lee Jae-myung instructed officials to "mobilize all available resources with the mindset that there is no such thing as an overreaction when it comes to protecting the lives and safety of citizens."
He added, "Activate all diplomatic channels and consult with the Nepalese government to ensure that the resources necessary for search and rescue operations are deployed."
During a phone call with the Nepalese foreign minister, Foreign Minister Cho Hyun promised $1 million in humanitarian assistance through international organizations and requested prompt support for the search and rescue of South Korean nationals.
