As walls of muddy water several meters high swept over a construction site and a village, people on the scene were forced into a desperate escape. The harrowing situation was captured entirely on video.

Water rushes down the valley at a terrifying speed, and workers at a hydroelectric power plant construction site begin to run for their lives.

[Oh my god! Run away quickly!]

Moments later, house-sized surges of muddy water swallow the site with a roar.

As the fierce currents threaten to engulf the village as well, residents panic in utter terror.

[Shoyam Rajbhandari / Local Resident: When I arrived at the market, the flood struck in just 30 minutes and destroyed the entire market. People were getting ready to go to work at the time.]

People checking the upper stream near a bridge are also startled by the massive current and rush to evacuate, and a mud tsunami immediately strikes, causing the bridge to collapse effortlessly.

It is reported that flood warnings sounded only after the fast-moving currents, reaching speeds of up to 70 kilometers per hour, had already reached the village.

Even though a flash flood in the area in July of last year swept away a bridge connecting China and Nepal, leading China to agree to immediately notify Nepal if water levels on its side of the river rose and to strengthen information sharing, reports indicate that the cooperative system between the two countries failed to function properly during this massive flood, leading to even greater casualties.
