President Lee Jae-myung stated today (August 27), "The crisis of explosive concentration in the capital area and the issue of regional extinction are posing a serious threat to South Korea," adding, "If we fail to resolve these issues, South Korea has no future."

During a luncheon meeting with mayors, county heads, and district chiefs held at the Blue House today, President Lee emphasized, "We must alleviate the chronic concentration in the capital area and unleash the potential of the entire country to usher in an era of 'growth for all,' which is the only way to secure a future and hope for us."

President Lee explained, "This is also why the People's Sovereignty Government is completely reorganizing the nation's industrial map centered around the 'three mega projects' and the 'five poles and three specials,' and actively working to improve settlement conditions in local regions."

He also promised, "The People's Sovereignty Government has established a local special system that provides thicker support the further a region is from Seoul, and based on this, we are continuously discovering projects to ensure specialized support is delivered," adding, "We will continue our efforts to expand the practical authority and financial resources of local regions moving forward."

However, he noted, "We cannot accomplish all these tasks with the central government's strength alone," emphasizing that "cooperation between the central government and local governments is essential."

Meanwhile, before beginning the event, President Lee mentioned the floods in the Himalayan mountainous region of north-central Nepal, stating, "It is regrettable that the safety and whereabouts of nine of our overseas compatriots remain unconfirmed," and requested, "Please join your hearts together in hoping for their early safe return."
