The opening of the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo, the world's first exposition centered on the theme of islands, is now just 9 days away. The venue has been designed as a space where visitors can directly enjoy and experience the culture and ecology of islands from around the world.

KBC reporter Park Seung-hyun has the story.

The 20-meter-high theme island, the landmark of the Yeosu World Island Expo, has revealed its majestic appearance.

The exterior of the theme island is surrounded by 880 LED panels, showcasing dazzling media art displays.

The interior is designed as a space that comprehensively introduces the past, present, and future of islands.

The expo venue is filled with 8 exhibition halls capturing the culture and ecology of islands, including the theme island.

The Marine Ecology Island illustrates the healing process of the marine ecosystem, while the opposite Future Island showcases future transportation methods that will transform how people travel to and from islands.

The Culture Island, which deals with legends of islands around the world, and the Market Island, where visitors can taste island cuisine, have also completed their preparations.

At the 3,000-seat outdoor performance venue, 140 diverse events, including K-POP and traditional performances from various countries, will be held throughout the entire duration of the expo.

At the sub-venues of Geumodo Island in Nam-myeon and Gaedo Island in Hwajeong-myeon, stay-type tourism programs will also be operated, allowing visitors to stay directly on the islands to explore the Birong-gil trails and experience fishing village life.

Bringing together the present and future of islands worldwide in one place, the Yeosu World Island Expo will run for two months starting from September 5.
