The population shortage in rural and regional areas is severe, isn't it?
"Move here and we will give you 2 million won"—quite an unprecedented support measure has been proposed.
This is the story of Goseong County in South Gyeongsang Province.
Goseong County has decided to significantly increase the relocation congratulatory money paid to incoming residents starting next year.
Currently, the county pays 100,000 won per person for households of 3 people or fewer, and 700,000 won per household for families of 4 or more. However, starting next year, this will be increased to 300,000 won per person for households of 3 people or fewer, and 2 million won per household for families of 4 or more.
However, to prevent people from simply transferring their residency addresses without actually settling down, the payout method is also changing.
A portion of the support fund will be paid 6 months after application, and the remaining amount will be paid 3 months after that.
In addition, instead of cash, the funds will be paid in Goseong Sarang Gift Certificates (local currency) to ensure that the support leads to consumption within the region.
