The Democratic Party has passed a resolution calling for the expulsion of People Power Party Representative Lee Jin-sook, who hosted a forum that disparaged the May 18 Democratization Movement. Rep. Lee has filed a complaint against Democratic Party Representative Kim Min-seok for using the expression "female Hitler," to which Rep. Kim fired back by suggesting she be called "female Chun Doo-hwan" instead.

At the Democratic Party's field supreme council meeting held yesterday in Andong, North Gyeongsang Province.

Democratic Party Representative Kim Min-seok made these remarks regarding how People Power Party Representative Lee Jin-sook is addressed.

[Kim Min-seok / Democratic Party Representative: How about we uniformly refer to her as "female Chun Doo-hwan"? She doesn't seem to think that being called "female Chun Doo-hwan" defames her character.]

Targeting Rep. Lee, who has faced criticism for holding a "May 18 disparagement forum," Rep. Kim launched a fierce attack on the 15th by calling her "female Hitler and female Chun Doo-hwan." He was pointing out the fact that Rep. Lee took issue only with the phrase "female Hitler" and filed a complaint against him for the crime of insult.

The Democratic Party urged Rep. Lee to resign from her position as a lawmaker.

The Democratic Party also passed a resolution urging the expulsion of Rep. Lee at yesterday's plenary session of the National Assembly.

People Power Party lawmakers left the chamber without participating in the vote, and Rep. Lee made the following claims outside the plenary session hall.

[Lee Jin-sook / People Power Party Representative: The one-party dictatorship of the Democratic Party has stripped even a member of parliament representing the people of the freedom of speech.]

Amid statements from the People Power Party leadership that they are not reviewing disciplinary action against Rep. Lee, the Democratic Party is also moving to revise the National Assembly Act to enable parliamentary-level disciplinary measures.

The Democratic Party's proposed amendment allows for suspension of duties for up to one year if a lawmaker holds a forum or provides a venue where actions slandering or distorting the May 18 Democratization Movement are anticipated.

However, a disciplinary motion against a lawmaker must pass through the Special Committee on Ethics, and the 22nd National Assembly has yet to even form the Ethics Committee.
