Meta, the operator of Facebook and Instagram, has agreed to pay $16.7 billion, approximately 23.1 trillion won, to resolve lawsuits filed by U.S. state governments accusing the company of inducing social media addiction among teenagers.

Additionally, to protect minors, Meta decided to restrict social media usage time for users under 18 and modify the content recommendation algorithm to reduce its addictiveness.

These usage restrictions can only be lifted with parental approval, and teen accounts will be set to private by default. Measures will also be implemented to prevent unknown adults from searching for or contacting teenagers.
