Gyeonggi Province announced on August 26 that an inspection of price display statuses at 439 tax-free oil-handling gas stations across the province, conducted from May 20 to June 19, revealed display errors at a significant number of them.
The violations accounted for 367 gas stations (83.6%) in the case of diesel and 325 stations (74.0%) for gasoline.
By type of violation, 296 gas stations (67.4%) were found to have discrepancies between the tax-free diesel amount calculated based on regular prices and the tax-free amount listed on the price board.
There were also 252 gas stations (57.4%) with discrepancies in tax-free gasoline amounts.
Additionally, 71 gas stations for diesel and 73 for gasoline were found to have missing price boards or omitted oil price information, making it difficult to verify consistency.
Gyeonggi Province plans to notify the respective city and county governments of the violations to take administrative measures, such as imposing fines.
This inspection was led by the Gyeonggi Fair Trade Keepers.
Composed of 31 members, the Fair Trade Keepers monitor unfair trade practices across various sectors such as online platforms, distribution, and franchise businesses, and serve to deliver field voices to Gyeonggi Province.
