A Chinese exchange student in her 20s was found dead five days after she was reported missing. A Chinese man in his 30s has been arrested as the prime suspect—and he was the very person who initially reported her missing to the police.

The victim, a Chinese exchange student in her 20s identified as A, was found dead yesterday afternoon (August 25), five days after going missing.

Police have arrested a Chinese man in his 30s, identified as B, as the primary murder suspect.

The location where A was found dead was B's residence in Gyeongsan, Gyeongsangbuk-do.

Investigations revealed that B was the one who first reported A missing to the police, claiming to be her boyfriend.

A had entered South Korea to attend her graduate school commencement ceremony, but lost contact with her family and acquaintances in China late in the afternoon on the 20th, the day of her graduation.

The missing person report was filed at around 7:00 PM the following day, the 21st.

However, while questioning B as a reference witness after he filed the report, police noticed suspicious circumstances and converted his status to that of a suspect.

Police plan to determine the exact time and cause of death through an autopsy on A. At the same time, based on their findings—including whether B intentionally filed the missing person report to throw off the investigation—they intend to apply for an arrest warrant for B shortly.
