Iran and Oman have agreed to pursue initiatives such as opening a "temporary joint maritime corridor" and launching a "joint mine-clearing project" to resume safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, where passage has been restricted in the wake of recent conflicts.

According to a joint statement released by the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 25th local time, Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi, who was on a working visit to Iran, held talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Tehran to discuss measures for the safe navigation and management of the Strait of Hormuz.

The two ministers shared the view that it is important to resume safe maritime operations through the Strait of Hormuz while upholding the sovereignty and sovereign rights of each country, the statement said.

In particular, considering the situation in the strait created by the recent war and its destructive aftermath, they discussed a practical and executable "step-by-step framework."

The phased framework proposed by both sides includes agreements to open a "temporary joint maritime corridor" passing through the Strait of Hormuz and to implement a "joint mine-clearing project" within the strait.

The two countries agreed to continue working-level technical negotiations to reach agreements on establishing a permanent maritime corridor and long-term management plans for the strait in the future, as well as establishing information-exchange systems, managing maritime traffic, and providing related maritime and security services.

In addition, the two ministers emphasized the importance of promoting joint dialogue with neighboring countries in the Persian Gulf region, and reaffirmed that compliance with applicable international law and respect for the sovereign rights of coastal states are essential.
