National modern pentathlon athletes Seong Seung-min and Seo Chang-wan have teamed up to win the gold medal in the mixed relay at the World Championships.

Seong and Seo claimed victory yesterday (the 25th) in the mixed relay on the second day of the 2026 Modern Pentathlon World Championships held in Guiyang, China.

After securing the highest score in fencing, Seong and Seo maintained their dominant performance throughout the competition by recording the fourth-fastest time overall in swimming.

They then crossed the finish line first in the final laser run, leaving the second-place Belarusian duo 18 seconds behind.

Although the mixed relay event will not be held at next month's Asian Games, the two athletes boosted their condition and confidence just a month ahead of the competition.

Seong became the first South Korean female athlete to win a gold medal at the 2024 World Championships and claimed the bronze medal at the Paris Olympics, a first for an Asian female athlete.

Having won a bronze medal in the team event at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games, Seong is now aiming for her first individual gold medal at the upcoming Nagoya Games.

Seo Chang-wan, who won the World Cup in Pazardzhik this year, is also firmly targeting his first Asian Games medal.
