Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon has proposed the Tancheon Water Reclamation Center as an alternative site to the government's housing supply plan for Yongsan Park.

Speaking to reporters after attending the Future Innovation Forum held at the National Assembly today (the 25th), Mayor Oh said, "The Seoul City government has found an alternative site with various favorable conditions comparable to Yongsan Park." He added, "Youth housing can be built on what is currently the Tancheon Water Reclamation Center, tentatively named the 'Southeastern Youth-Specialized Industrial Complex.'"

Oh stated, "By relocating the 400,000 to 500,000-square-meter water reclamation center elsewhere, allocating half of the site for residential housing, and creating a physical artificial intelligence (AI) complex together, it can be utilized as a central hub for restructuring Seoul's industrial functions and a complex specialized in youth housing."

He continued, "Compared to several sites currently being discussed in connection with Yongsan Park, the supply capacity itself is larger, and the residential environment is much superior."

Mayor Oh mentioned that he also proposed this plan during a meeting with Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Young-bae on the 23rd.

He introduced, "This is by no means a hastily concocted proposal. A master team was formed two years ago, and research studies have already been completed," adding, "The team has currently commissioned a private developer to conduct a feasibility study."

The site in question is a station-area location situated between Daecheong Station and Hak-yeoul Station on Subway Line 3. With Mount Daemo nearby and the Tancheon stream flowing alongside it, the location is considered to have excellent natural and transportation advantages even within Gangnam.

Mayor Oh stated, "By creating youth-specialized housing here, we can secure anywhere from 10,000 to 13,000 households," and added, "Young people will be able to secure homes in a form that directly connects their jobs and housing very conveniently."

Mayor Oh plans to propose this plan once again during his meeting with Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Kim Yoon-deok tomorrow.
