Regarding the case of Jang Mi-ran, who was found dead in Jeju 104 days after being reported missing, an analysis has emerged suggesting that "it is difficult to conclusively rule it as suicide from a practical investigation standpoint."

Pyo Chang-won, head of the Pyo Chang-won Crime Science Research Institute, stated during an interview on CBS radio's "Park Sung-tae's News Show" today, "From a practical field perspective, there are no signs of a physical struggle with anyone, no evidence of a third party entering or leaving, and no signs of the body being disturbed, moved, or abandoned." He added, "Based on the preliminary examination of the body at the scene, it is presumed to be death by hanging."

He continued, "It is highly likely to be judged as the result of an action taken by herself," while emphasizing that one should not jump to conclusions hastily.

At the same time, he stressed that even if the body has undergone significant decomposition, the exact cause of death must be determined through a thorough autopsy.

Pyo also strongly criticized the police for their lax response.

Pointing out that "considering the clothing, belongings, and CCTV footage at the time of the disappearance, checking the possibility of travel on foot should have been the top priority," Pyo said, "If the police had continued the search without lying at the outset that they had made contact, early discovery would have been fully possible, even if survival could not be guaranteed."

Regarding the police officer who falsely closed the case, he remarked, "It is like leaving the cat in charge of the fish, and a clear criminal act abusing police status, authority, and systems." He added, "We should not assume that others besides the two individuals currently exposed are doing the same, but a full-scale inspection must definitely be conducted until life and death and locations are verified."
