Local authorities have launched an investigation after dozens of fish were found dead in a stream in Gimpo, Gyeonggi Province.

According to Gimpo City on the 25th, a civic complaint was filed the previous afternoon reporting a mass fish kill in the Najinpocheon stream near Najin-gyo bridge in Geolpo-dong, Gimpo.

Gimpo City conducted an on-site inspection upstream from Najin-gyo and collected about 20 dead fish.

However, anticipating additional damage, authorities resumed collection work this morning and requested cooperation from the adjacent district of Geomdan-gu in Incheon.

Gimpo City plans to review detailed investigation measures, including analyzing stream water quality and the dead fish.

"Some of the fish were still dying, so further investigation is necessary," a Gimpo City official said. "We have also asked Geomdan-gu, where the stream flows, to check the situation."
