The Netflix series 'Scandal', starring actors Son Ye-jin, Ji Changwook, and Nana, is set to premiere on September 18.
'Scandal' tells the story of Lady Cho (Son Ye-jin), a woman with exceptional talent who feels confined by the framework of Joseon-era women, and Cho-won (Ji Changwook), the greatest romantic in Joseon, as they enter into a romantic wager, with Hui-yeon (Nana) becoming entangled in the mix.
The project adapts French author Pierre Choderlos de Laclos's 1782 novel 'Les Liaisons Dangereuses' into the Joseon Dynasty. The work was previously made into the 2003 film 'Untold Scandal', which was a box office success, drawing over 3.5 million viewers despite its restricted rating for adult audiences.
This new series is directed by filmmaker Jung Ji-woo, renowned for 'Happy End' and 'A Muse', who has reinterpreted the original work from a modern perspective. Centering on characters driven by their own desires and selfhood, the series aims to portray in a multidimensional way the process by which they forge their own choices amid the taboos and constraints of Joseon.
The teaser poster released today features Lady Cho sitting in the inner quarters where red flowers are in full bloom, Cho-won positioned with a relaxed expression reminiscent of a figure in a portrait of a beauty, and Hui-yeon portraying a sorrowful look amid plum blossoms. The traditional Korean mise-en-scène surrounding the three figures, coupled with the tagline "Desire the unattainable," hints at the danger of the wager that binds them together.

The teaser trailer captures the beginning of a wager that shakes Bukchon, the residential area of the noble class. With a gaze that seems to see through everything, Lady Cho proposes the wager, and Cho-won accepts it with eyes full of desire. Meanwhile, Hui-yeon shows fear as she gets caught up in the two people's wager.
Subsequently, scenes of Cho-won approaching Hui-yeon to win the wager and Lady Cho watching over them intersect, heightening the subtle tension among the three. This stimulates curiosity about how Cho-won's approach will alter Hui-yeon's fate and what desires prompted Lady Cho to initiate this wager.
'Scandal' will be available on Netflix on September 18.
