The identity of 52-year-old Kim Sang-soo, who committed a retaliatory murder against his former romantic partner after she reported him for stalking, was disclosed today.

The Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency announced that it will post Kim's personal information, including his name, age, and mugshot, on its official website for a month starting at 9:00 a.m. today through 9:00 a.m. on September 24.

The information is scheduled to be removed once the disclosure period expires.

Previously, the police held a deliberation committee on the disclosure of personal information on the 18th and decided to reveal Kim's identity, but the release was delayed due to Kim's objection.

The current Act on the Disclosure of Information on Serious Crimes stipulates that if a suspect does not consent to the disclosure of their identity, a grace period of at least five days must be granted.

Kim is accused of murdering his former partner in her 60s, with whom he had been in a four-year relationship before breaking up, by stabbing her with a pre-prepared weapon around 3:00 a.m. on July 5 in Sangdaewon-dong, Jungwon-gu, Seongnam.

Investigations revealed that Kim harbored a grudge after being reported by the victim for stalking and facing potential punishment, leading him to systematically plan the crime by purchasing a weapon.

On the 19th, the police referred Kim to the prosecution under detention, applying charges of retaliatory murder under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Crimes, which carries a heavier statutory penalty than ordinary murder under the Criminal Act.
