Police have launched an investigation after a video recently went viral showing men in work clothes emerging from a manhole in the middle of Manhattan, New York, in the dark.

Recently, a video was uploaded to TikTok showing three men wearing coveralls and headlamps emerging from a manhole while looking around on a New York street.

The poster stated that the video was filmed near Penn Station in Manhattan at 4:19 a.m. on the 18th (local time).

What these individuals were doing underground in the early hours of the morning has sparked both curiosity and anxiety among citizens.

In New York, people in similar attire were captured crawling out of sewers in areas such as Brooklyn last May, prompting police to launch a search.

At the time, authorities deployed emergency response teams to search the area, but no direct threat to the public or suspicious items were found.

An investigation by New York City confirmed that there was no significant damage to the sewage infrastructure.

However, it has been suggested that they might be a type of "treasure hunter" searching the sewer network for valuables.

It has not yet been confirmed whether this latest video is related to the incident in May.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) said in a statement on the 24th that they are aware of the incident and actively investigating, adding that no arrests have been made yet.
