There is an item that costs 300,000 won in South Korea, but only 70,000 won in Japan.

What could it be? It is the obesity treatments Mounjaro and Wegovy.

With such a large price difference, there has been a recent increase in cases of people being caught trying to illegally bring them in through apps.

The Korea Customs Service detected 4,155 cases of illegal smuggling of obesity treatments in the first half of this year alone.

This is 3.5 times the total number of detections for the entire last year.

A four-week supply of Mounjaro 2.5 is sold for about 290,000 won even at low-cost medical institutions in South Korea.

However, it costs around 74,000 won in Japan. On top of that, there is the current weak Japanese yen.

As a result, there is a rise in attempts to secretly smuggle them into belongings after traveling to Japan.

However, people must keep in mind that unlike regular pharmaceuticals, Mounjaro and Wegovy cannot be freely brought into the country just because they were purchased personally overseas.

They fall under the category of hazardous pharmaceuticals designated by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.

Therefore, without a recommendation letter exempting the verification of import requirements, bringing them in is restricted regardless of the quantity.
