Phishing emails attempting to steal Naver user account information by impersonating government agencies such as Wetax, the National Tax Service, the National Police Agency, and Cheong Wa Dae have been detected.

According to notices on Naver's customer support page today (August 24), cases have been confirmed where phishing emails promoting tax bills, police attendance demands, and livelihood recovery support fund guides are luring users into clicking links.

When a user clicks on links within the emails such as "Check Notice Details," "View Case Details," or "Register Receiving Account," they are directed to a fake site designed to look similar to the Naver login page.

Naver explained that while the phishing page may display the Naver logo and pre-fill the user's email address, the address bar will show a domain other than Naver's official login address, "nid.naver.com."

Phishing emails sometimes include government agency logos, case numbers, legal clauses, and payment deadlines, as well as actual agency representative phone numbers or normal security guide text.

Naver stated that government agencies do not request Naver passwords via email links during official business processes.

It added that requests to enter passwords under the pretext of checking taxes, fines, or subsidies should be regarded as phishing.

"This case involves phishing emails created by attackers who misappropriated agency names and publicly available document formats," Naver stated. "Even if the email contents appear urgent, do not click the links first; instead, please check through the official app or site."
