A foreign teenager has been arrested by police in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province, on charges of fatally stabbing his father with a weapon. The suspect stated that he committed the crime while trying to break up a fight between his parents.

Reporter Noh Yujin has the details on these incidents and accidents.

At around 1:00 AM today (August 23), a 19-year-old foreign male, surnamed A, stabbed and killed his father and also injured his mother, who tried to intervene.

A, a university student, called 119 directly right after the crime. During police questioning, he reportedly stated, "I swung the weapon in a fit of anger while trying to stop my parents from arguing over business issues."

[Neighbor: They would drop things and make thumping noises, so while you couldn't really hear their voices over the argument, you could hear those kinds of sounds. (Even normally) there were times when there was thumping back and forth out of nowhere.]

Although all family members hold foreign nationalities, police stated that they are investigating under domestic law and have applied for an arrest warrant for A on charges of patricide.

At around 3:50 AM, a fishing boat carrying seven people collided with a 30-ton fishing vessel and capsized in the waters off Tongyeong, South Gyeongsang Province.

The accident occurred while they were fishing with the anchor dropped. Three people on deck were rescued by a nearby vessel, and the remaining four passengers who were inside the cabin at the time of the collision were also rescued just before the hull completely turned over.

One of the passengers, a man in his 60s, lost consciousness before recovering and being transported to a hospital.

Around 11:00 AM, a report was received that a man engaging in water sports was drifting in the waters near Jaeondo, Sinan-gun, South Jeolla Province.

The Coast Guard dispatched to the scene rescued the man, who was holding onto a surf board, and fortunately, his injuries were reportedly not severe.
