Cheong Wa Dae stated that it will actively review housing site acquisition plans if proposed by regional committee chairs and heads of local governments belonging to the ruling Democratic Party.
During the 10th high-level consultative meeting among the party, government, and Cheong Wa Dae held at the Prime Minister's official residence in Samcheong-dong, Seoul, Chief of Staff Kang Hoon-sik remarked today (August 23), "Signals are paramount in housing supply, and the public's housing anxiety can be alleviated not through vague promises, but with concrete plans." He added, "Only by clearly presenting a schedule of when, where, and how much will be supplied can we relieve the housing anxieties of young people, newlywed couples, and ordinary citizens."
He further noted, "Significantly expanding housing supply in the capital region is the most difficult part, and the core of this task is securing housing sites."
He went on to say, "If ruling party regional committee chairs and local government heads, who are well-versed in local conditions, propose ways to secure housing sites that can supply homes in a short period, Cheong Wa Dae and the government plan to actively review them."
Regarding the tax reform proposal, Chief of Staff Kang explained, "The tax reform plan was not an unilateral announcement of a finalized policy, but rather an initial proposal presented to listen to public opinion." He added, "The Lee Jae-myung administration listens to the voices of the people more than any other administration and does not hesitate to reflect rational opinions in its policies."
He emphasized, "At today's meeting as well, we will share the valuable opinions of the public heard by the party, government, and Cheong Wa Dae, and discuss how to finalize the tax reform plan into a more rational policy." He added, "Through this opportunity, we must carefully examine field feedback once again and further enhance policy completeness and public acceptance."
Regarding the regular session of the National Assembly to be held next month, Kang stated, "The final stage of implementing policies within the lives of the people is legislation." He continued, "The government plans to clarify the priorities of urgent livelihood-economy bills and more actively explain their necessity to the National Assembly.
We ask the party to also draw broad bipartisan consensus and pool efforts to ensure that necessary bills are processed in a timely manner."
He also added, "Starting with the election of the new party leader, the party, government, and Cheong Wa Dae will work together to turn the promises made to the people into concrete achievements one by one, marching vigorously toward an 'irreplaceable Republic of Korea.'"
