A fire broke out at a thermal power plant in Jungheung-dong, Yeosu, South Jeolla Province, at around 4:10 p.m. today (the 22nd).

Upon receiving a report from an employee, fire authorities mobilized 27 pieces of equipment and 78 personnel, bringing the major blaze under control in about two hours.

Authorities reported that no injuries have been confirmed so far.

Fire authorities believe the fire started in a filter facility used to screen coal dust, located about 100 meters above the ground at the plant. They plan to investigate the exact cause of the fire once cleanup operations are completed.
