The U.S. Supreme Court has allowed the construction of a $400 million (approx. 550 billion won) White House ballroom, pushed by President Donald Trump, to continue for the time being.

Chief Justice John Roberts issued a temporary order on the 21st (local time) allowing construction to proceed while the Supreme Court reviews the Trump administration's appeal against a lower court's construction halt order.

Previously, lower courts ruled that congressional approval was required for the construction of the White House ballroom, and the construction halt order was scheduled to take effect starting that day.

The Trump administration has been demolishing the White House East Wing since October of last year to build a ballroom of approximately 90,000 square meters capable of accommodating 1,000 people.

The administration told the court that about 65% of the construction is currently complete, and about $200 million (approx. 275 billion won) in private donations have already been injected or pledged.
