The Hyundai Motor labor union staged an 8-hour full strike today (the 21st) for the first time in 10 years amid a deadlock in wage negotiations.

With approximately 39,000 union members participating, all production lines at the Ulsan, Jeonju, and Asan plants came to a halt.

The union is demanding a 50% increase in bonuses, the reinstatement of dismissed union members, and an extension of the retirement age, while management is pushing back, arguing that there is no legal basis or rational standard for the demands.

The Korean Metal Workers' Union held a rally in front of the Hyundai Motor Group headquarters in Seoul today and signaled a general strike for the 26th.
