Yonsei University has announced enhanced security measures following a series of sightings of a naked, masked man near the dormitories on its Sinchon campus.
According to Yonsei University today (August 21), the university stated in a dormitory notice the previous day, "Safety-related incidents have occurred due to unauthorized entry by outsiders within the dormitory area." It added, "To prevent recurrence and create a safe living environment, we are temporarily closing the entrance leading to Mt. Ansan behind Muak Dormitory 1."
This means the university will restrict access for outsiders by shutting down some of the hiking trail entrances connected to Yonsei's Sinchon campus.
In addition, the university announced plans to increase the brightness of streetlights along walkways and strengthen patrol operations.
Previously, on August 19, an incident occurred in front of the dormitory on Yonsei University's Sinchon campus where a man wearing a black mask and no clothes sexually harassed a student and fled.
According to police, a man in a naked state and wearing a mask forcibly harassed a passerby on the Mt. Ansan Jarak-gil walking path on June 12 as well, and on July 21, a man in the same attire was reported by a passerby after hiding in the bushes near the Mt. Ansan Jarak-gil walking path.
Police suspect that the previous two cases and the sexual harassment incident on August 19 were all committed by the same man, and are analyzing closed-circuit (CC) TV footage to identify him.
Lee Soon-myung, chief of the Seodaemun Police Station, is scheduled to visit and inspect the walking paths near the dormitories at Yonsei University's Sinchon campus this afternoon.
