Professional baseball club SSG Landers announced today that it is dispatching six players and coaches to Japan to foster promising pitchers and strengthen the team's coaching capabilities.
The six-member delegation—consisting of promising pitchers Lee Do-woo, Shin Sang-yeon, and Ryu Hyun-gon, Futures (minor league) pitching coach Bong Jung-keun, development squad pitching coach Lee Ji-tae, and Futures strength coach Park Jung-wook—will train from the 21st to September 4th at the Next Base Athletic Lab, a sports science training facility in Chiba Prefecture, Japan.
This marks the team's second dispatch, following a previous program that sent pitchers Choi Yong-jun, Lee Jun-ki, Kim Do-hyun, and Byun Geon-woo from June 28 to August 10.
In Japan, the players will undergo precise diagnoses of their physical characteristics and pitching motions through biomechanical analysis, followed by personalized pitching mechanism improvement programs.
The accompanying coaches will directly experience the player assessment process and data-driven training and coaching methods, with plans to integrate these practices into the club's pitching development program upon their return.
Through this dispatch, SSG aims to deepen the 1.5-tier and main pitching pool for the 2027 season and establish advanced overseas coaching systems within the organization.
Choo Shin-soo, SSG's advisor to the owner and general manager of player development, stated, "While the first dispatch focused on short-term feedback for individual players, this second dispatch serves as a stepping stone to elevate the club's development infrastructure and capabilities. As our coaching staff directly internalize advanced biomechanical coaching techniques, we expect this to be a major turning point for the skill enhancement of the entire Futures team pitching staff."
