▲ Typhoon damage in China
State-run Xinhua News Agency reported today (August 21) that Typhoon Maysak, the 10th typhoon of the season, which battered southern China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region last month, has left 159 people dead and 10 missing.
According to the report, the cities of Nanning and Guigang in Guangxi held respective meetings on typhoon disaster recovery and reconstruction today to announce the extent of the damage.
As of midnight today, more than 1.65 million people were affected by the typhoon in the two cities, with the death toll tallied at 159 and 10 people reported missing.
Nanning and Guigang have concluded their emergency response operations and entered the phase of full-scale recovery and reconstruction.
Xinhua reported that Guangxi suffered severe and consecutive damage after being lashed by prolonged, record-breaking torrential rains over a wide area early last month due to Typhoon Maysak.
