Lee Jung-hoo of the San Francisco Giants in Major League Baseball (MLB) has extended his hitting streak to four consecutive games.
Starting as the 5th batter and right fielder in an away game against the Cleveland Guardians held at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio, today (the 21st, Korean time), Lee recorded one hit and one strikeout in four at-bats.
Having recorded his 37th multi-hit game of the season the previous day, Lee has produced a hit in all four games he has played in since the game against the Colorado Rockies on the 16th.
During this period, Lee did not play in the game against Cleveland on the 19th.
His season batting average dipped slightly from 0.294 to 0.293 (130 hits in 443 at-bats).
Lee struggled against opposing starting pitcher Gavin Williams.
He went down swinging for a strikeout in the top of the 2nd inning, flew out to center field in the top of the 4th, and flew out to left field in the top of the 6th.
He managed to pick up a hit in his final plate appearance in the top of the 8th inning with his team trailing 2-4.
With two outs and a runner on first, facing the fourth opposing pitcher Hunter Gaddis on a 1-2 ball-strike count, he hit a 153.4 km/h four-seam fastball that drifted down the middle for a single to center field.
However, he failed to score as subsequent batters did not hit.
San Francisco lost 2-5.
With 52 wins and 75 losses and a winning percentage of 0.409, they maintained 4th place in the National League (NL) West Division.
Kim Ha-seong of the Atlanta Braves did not play in the away game against the Chicago White Sox held at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago, Illinois.
This marked Kim's fifth consecutive game on the bench.
Atlanta won 2-0, snapping a three-game losing streak.
With 75 wins and 53 losses and a winning percentage of 0.586, they maintained 1st place in the NL East Division.
