A person in their 50s has been caught by police after driving drunk for over 20 kilometers and crashing into a stationary tow truck.

The Jeonbuk Provincial Police Agency's Expressway Police Unit announced today (August 21) that they have apprehended and are investigating an individual in their 50s, referred to as A, on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act (driving under the influence).

A is suspected of driving an SUV while intoxicated at around 11:10 PM the previous day at the 92-kilometer mark of the southbound Seohaean Expressway in Julpo-myeon, Buan-gun, and colliding with a tow truck parked on the roadside.

The tow truck had reportedly pulled over on the shoulder to tow a cargo truck with a damaged tire.

No casualties occurred as the tow truck driver and others were standing away from the accident scene at the time.

At the time of the accident, A's blood alcohol concentration was at a level warranting the revocation of a driver's license. Investigations revealed that A had driven a distance of more than 20 kilometers from downtown Gochang to Buan.

Police are currently investigating the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
