The People Power Party decided today (the 20th) to file lawsuits regarding the June 3 Seoul mayoral election and other races.
Chief Senior Spokesperson Choe Su-jin met with reporters after the general meeting of lawmakers held today (the 20th) and stated, "We will file lawsuits to invalidate the elections for metropolitan mayoral and proportional representation races in three regions—Seoul, Gyeonggi Province, and Incheon—as well as the races for Songpa-gu mayor, district councilors, and Seoul Metropolitan Council members across four constituencies in Seoul's Songpa-gu."
She added, "Due to serious suspicions involving shortages of ballot papers and electronic manipulation, we selected the areas where Representative Jang Dong-hyeok personally presented oral arguments (during the National Election Commission's election appeal review)."
As the deadline for filing election lawsuits is the 28th of this month, the People Power Party plans to submit the lawsuits to the court before that date.
Previously, on the 12th, the National Election Commission (NEC) dismissed the election appeal filed by the People Power Party regarding the Seoul mayoral election, stating that "violations of election regulations concerning the shortage of ballot papers and suspended voting in some polling stations cannot be deemed to have affected the election results."
The NEC also dismissed all other election appeals filed by the People Power Party regarding the Seoul Metropolitan Council proportional representation election, the Incheon mayoral and Incheon Metropolitan Council proportional representation elections, the Gyeonggi provincial governor and Gyeonggi Provincial Council proportional representation elections, and the North Chungcheong provincial governor and North Chungcheong Provincial Council proportional representation elections.
