A man in his 60s who went missing while hiking on Cheonmasan Mountain in Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province, has been found dead.
According to fire authorities and the police yesterday (August 20), a report was filed at around 7:20 a.m. the day before yesterday in Mukhyeon-ri, Hwado-eup, Namyangju, stating, "He has not returned past his usual return time and cannot be reached."
Authorities launched a search operation and discovered the vehicle of a man identified as A in the parking lot of Cheonmasan Mountain. Focusing their search toward the peak, they found A, a man in his 60s, dead below a cliff around noon.
Due to the rugged terrain, police reportedly used a helicopter to retrieve A's body and hand it over to the bereaved family.
According to the police, A usually hiked Cheonmasan Mountain every day and had left his house early that morning, sending a photo taken at the peak of Cheonmasan Mountain to his family.
The police believe that A slipped and fell while descending the mountain and are currently investigating the exact circumstances of the accident.
