The Gimje Police Station in Jeonbuk Province announced today (August 20) that it has forwarded an 80s-aged man, identified as A, to prosecutors under detention on charges of murder and attempted murder for swinging a weapon at his family and causing the death of his son.

A is accused of stabbing his son, who is in his 50s, and his wife, who is in his 70s, with a weapon at their home in Gimje at 5:47 a.m. on August 11.

Investigations revealed that at the time, A tried to go outside, and when his wife and son tried to stop him, he grabbed a weapon from the kitchen and stabbed them.

The son suffered severe abdominal injuries and was transported to a hospital, but passed away on the same day.

His wife, who sustained injuries to her shoulder and other parts of her body, was reported to be in non-life-threatening condition while receiving hospital treatment.

A was diagnosed with dementia early this year, and police investigations found that he was unable to properly state his motive for the crime.
