The KIA Tigers extended their winning streak to four games, propelled by Kim Do-young's explosive home run.
KIA defeated the home team Hanwha Eagles 6-3 in the 2026 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League held today (August 19) at Hanwha Life Ballpark in Daejeon.
With their fourth consecutive win, fourth-place KIA took another step closer to the postseason.
The game unfolded as a pitching duel through the middle innings, featuring starting pitchers Keishou Shirakawa and Owen White, but the momentum shifted in the latter half.
KIA took the lead in the top of the 2nd inning when Oh Sun-woo doubled and scored on a subsequent groundout, followed by Harold Castro hitting a solo home run over the right field wall in the 2nd inning to make it 2-0.
Trailing behind, Hanwha tied the game 2-2 in the bottom of the 7th when Noh Si-hwan launched a two-run homer over the left-center field fence.
However, the KIA batting lineup exploded in the top of the 9th.
With runners on first and second with no outs following two walks, Park Jae-hyun hit an RBI single to center field, putting KIA back ahead 3-2.
With one out and runners on second and third, Kim Do-young drove in the decisive runs with a three-run home run over the left field wall.
Hitting a home run for the second consecutive day to record his 37th of the season, Kim Do-young extended his lead at the top of the home run category, pulling ahead of second-place Austin Dean (32 home runs, LG Twins) by 5 homers.
Hanwha, which managed to salvage only one run in the bottom of the 9th, fell into a five-game losing streak.
KIA's Lee Eui-lee, who took the mound in relief with runners on first and third with no outs in the bottom of the 9th, protected the team's victory with just four pitches to pick up his third consecutive save.
