A vice principal who installed an illegal camera in the teachers' office of an elementary school in Gwangju has been referred to prosecutors.

The Gwangju Dongbu Police Station announced that it has sent a man in his 50s, designated as A, to prosecutors without detention on charges of violating the Protection of Communications Secrets Act and the Personal Information Protection Act.

A is accused of installing a camera on his desk without obtaining consent from other faculty members.

Investigations revealed that the device was a household home camera capable of both video recording and audio capture.

Through search and seizure operations, police secured A's camera and mobile phone, and after conducting forensic analysis, confirmed that A had linked the camera to his mobile phone.

However, police explained that the camera was not pointed at any specific individual and was used for the purpose of audio recording.

According to reports, faculty members grew suspicious when A seemed to know details of conversations they had had while he was away from his desk, leading them to discover the home camera on his desk.

Police received a complaint from the school stating that A had installed an illegal camera and continued their investigation for five months.
