This is a post uploaded to a social media platform early this morning (August 19).
It is a plea for help from someone searching for her older cousin, who went missing in Hallim-eup, Jeju, last May.
The writer stated, "My older sister, who went missing one morning last May, left the house with only her mobile phone and has been out of contact ever since," adding, "Immediately after the initial missing persons report, the police said, 'We got in touch with your sister and confirmed her safety.'"
The writer continued, "The police told us that 'the missing person herself does not want her location to be known,' and naturally, we believed the police."
Believing the police, the family simply waited for the missing person to be safe. However, when there was no news as time passed, they eventually filed another missing persons report last month, stating, "In the process of full-scale investigations being conducted, we encountered a shocking truth."
It was revealed that the claim made by the police during the initial missing persons report last May—that they had contacted the missing person and confirmed her safety—was false, and that the police officer who received the report had actually reported that they made contact even though they had not reached her.
Currently, the missing person's phone is turned off, and no basic activity, such as the use of bank accounts or credit cards, has been detected at all.
The writer stated, "Accordingly, the police have resumed the investigation and are actively looking into it to find my sister," while disclosing her physical description and asking citizens for tips.
The Jeju Provincial Police Agency announced that it is investigating a police officer in his 30s affiliated with the Jeju Western Police Station in connection with allegations that he filed a false report regarding the missing persons report last May and arbitrarily closed the case.
The police officer in question is also currently under investigation for allegedly entering a women's restroom at a police station last month and has been relieved of his duties.
