Kim Sung-hwan, Minister of Climate, Energy and Environment, has visited the memorial altar for the late Seo Young-cheol, head of the National Solidarity for Humidification Disinfectant Disaster Victims.

Minister Kim visited the memorial altar set up at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul at around 11 a.m. today (the 19th) and paid his respects in front of Representative Seo's portrait.

Following Representative Seo's death from pneumothorax on the 11th, the solidarity had continued its protest at Gwanghwamun Square, demanding a visit and an apology from Minister Kim.

After paying his respects, Minister Kim said, "I met the deceased at a meeting held at the National Assembly and a couple of times after that, and I express my deep condolences over his unfortunate passing."

He added, "We will fulfill our responsibilities so that the state can swiftly provide compensation through responsible procedures, and we will do our best to ensure that no unfairly treated victims are left behind by offering re-examinations to those who have not yet been recognized as victims."

Minister Kim also stated, "We have amended the special act related to social disasters, and if there are any shortcomings, we will consult with the National Assembly to supplement them."

This is seen as an indication that additional points demanded by victim groups will be reflected regarding the Special Act on Remedy and Support for Humidification Disinfectant Victims, which passed the National Assembly in March.
