As the North Pacific high pressure system expands its influence once again, hot weather has returned.

Heat advisories have been reissued for Seoul and various other regions.

Today (August 19), perceived temperatures are expected to soar to 33°C (91°F) in Seoul and up to 35°C (95°F) in Geochang, bringing oppressive heat exceeding 33°C (91°F) to many areas.

The sweltering weather is expected to persist for the time being.

Citizens are advised to take precautions against the heat, such as drinking plenty of water.

Looking at the current radar imagery, shower clouds accompanied by thunder and lightning are developing mainly around the southern regions.

Additionally, heavy rain advisories have been issued for some parts of the Honam region.

Today, turbulent shower clouds are likely to develop mostly in southern Gyeonggi Province, the inland areas of southern Gangwon Province, and regions south of Chungcheong Province.

The ground has already been weakened by heavy rainfall in the southern coastal areas.

People must remain vigilant against safety accidents such as landslides and soil runoff.

Rain is forecasted to fall primarily centered around the central regions between Friday and Saturday.
