The number of Starbucks application users, which had declined following the controversy surrounding Starbucks' so-called 'Tank Day', rebounded last month.
According to a survey of monthly active users (MAU) of major cafe brand mobile apps by retail analytics service WiseApp·Retail, the number of Starbucks app users was tallied at 7.14 million last month.
This is an 11.4% increase from 6.41 million in June.
The number of Starbucks app users dropped by about 15.0% from 7.55 million in May to 6.41 million in June following the Tank Day controversy.
It subsequently rebounded last month, rising 11.4% to 7.14 million.
However, the user count for July remains 5.4% lower compared to May before the controversy, and is down 6.8% compared to the same month last year (7.66 million).
The cafe brand with the second-highest number of users last month was Mega MGC Coffee, recording 3 million users.
This marks a 7% increase compared to the same month last year, setting a record high.
This was followed by Compose Coffee (1.42 million), A Twosome Place (1.4 million), Paik's Coffee (0.84 million), and Ediya Coffee (0.59 million).
The cafe brand with the highest estimated credit and debit card payment amount last month was Starbucks.
Mega MGC Coffee, A Twosome Place, Compose Coffee, Ediya Coffee, and Paik's Coffee followed in that order.
The gap in estimated payment amounts between first-place Starbucks and second-place Mega MGC Coffee has narrowed.
Mega MGC Coffee's estimated payment amount last month reached 94.9% of Starbucks' level, up 25.4 percentage points from 69.5% in the same month last year.
This survey is a sample survey targeting South Korean Android and iOS smartphone users.
The estimated payment amounts are projections based on a sample survey of credit and debit card transaction details of South Koreans, and do not include bank transfers, cash transactions, or payments made through partner companies.
As a result, there may be a difference from the actual sales figures of individual companies.
