▲ Crackdown on Illegal Activities at Valley and Stream Recreation Areas
The Gyeonggi Special Judicial Police announced today (August 19) that they caught 19 businesses with 23 violations following a focused crackdown on illegal operations at 279 recreation areas, including valleys and streams across the province, ahead of the summer peak vacation season.
The violations uncovered during the crackdown, which ran from July 20 to 31, include 3 cases of unauthorized occupation of streams, 13 cases of operating unregistered restaurants and failing to report changes to business premises, 2 cases of operating unregistered amusement businesses, and 5 cases of unauthorized installation of structures and altering land forms within development restriction zones.
For instance, Business A was caught using a stream area for restaurant operations after illegally installing temporary structures and wooden platforms (pyeongsang) without permission from the competent authority.
In addition, Business B operated unauthorized water play facilities such as water slides and swimming pools, while Business C was found to have installed unauthorized tents and wooden platforms in a development restriction zone.
Under the River Act, individuals who occupy stream areas without permission, install structures, obstruct river flows, or alter stream directions are subject to up to two years in prison or a fine of up to 20 million won.
The Gyeonggi provincial government plans to take legal action against the caught violations in accordance with relevant laws and continue follow-up management to prevent recurrence.
