Recently, listings offering to sell North Korean banknotes have been popping up one after another on secondhand trading platforms.

These North Korean banknotes are being traded in secondhand markets anywhere from a few thousand won to around 100,000 won.

They are presumed to have been bought during trips to China or Russia.

The problem is that these types of transactions can violate the law.

Bringing North Korean goods into South Korea may require approval from the Minister of Unification.

Violating this can lead to a prison sentence of up to 3 years or a fine of up to 30 million won.

However, experts explained that if the transactions are on a small scale and for collection purposes, the likelihood of leading to criminal punishment is not high.
