The prosecution has demanded the death penalty—the maximum sentence under the law—in the first trial for Kim Soyoung, the defendant in the motel drug murder case. Kim maintained until the end that she had no intention to kill, and the sentencing is scheduled for next Thursday, the 27th.

The final sentencing hearing, where the prosecution made its sentencing demand for "serial drug murder" defendant Kim Soyoung, was also attended by the bereaved family of the victim who died last February.

The prosecution rebuked her, stating, "The nature of the crime is grave, as she took the life of someone who showed her affection." Taking into account that she has shown no remorse, consistently lying even after the crime, the prosecution demanded the death penalty—the maximum legal sentence—for Kim Soyoung.

Kim Soyoung, who appeared in court wearing a light green prisoner uniform, stated in her final statement, "I am reflecting on my actions of handing over the drugs," but added, "I never planned to kill anyone."

She then appealed for leniency, saying, "After coming to the detention center, I realized how much happiness it was to eat a warm meal by my mother's side."

The bereaved family repeatedly urged the court to hand down the death penalty as requested by the prosecution.

Kim Soyoung was indicted and detained last March on charges of handing drinks laced with benzodiazepine drugs to three men in their 20s between mid-December of last year and February of this year, resulting in the deaths of two and causing another to lose consciousness.

The first-trial sentencing for Kim Soyoung will take place on the 27th.
