Newly elected Democratic Party leader Kim Min-seok embraces Chief of Staff Kang Hoon-sik of the Cheong Wa Dae, who visited the National Assembly to offer congratulatory greetings.

[Kim Min-seok / Democratic Party Leader: I have come to feel a sense of expectation and responsibility that we will achieve completion and communication as a wallless one team.]

President Lee Jae-myung delivered this message to the Democratic Party during a cabinet meeting yesterday (the 18th).

[President Lee Jae-myung: Even if they are competitors who engaged in fierce competition against each other, their responsibility as partners sharing a joint responsibility for the people and the country is no different.]

In leader Kim's first party appointments, it drew attention that lawmaker Han Jeong-ae, who served as the policy committee chair under the preceding Chung Cheong-rae leadership, was appointed as secretary-general in charge of overall party affairs.

Defeated former leader Chung Cheong-rae made the following request to his supporters, saying, "Kim Min-seok won, but his arguments lost, and Chung Cheong-rae lost, but his supporters won."

[Chung Cheong-rae / Former Democratic Party Leader: You must not leave the party. The owners of the party are you, the party members. Please stay until the end and protect me.]

Pro-Cheong Wa Dae Senior Supreme Council Member Choi Min-hee claimed that it was an "unfair national convention."

[Choi Min-hee / Democratic Party Senior Supreme Council Member (KBS Radio 'Jeong-geuk Sisa'): I also think that the management of this national convention will remain as a dark history of the Democratic Party. Party members are furious about the unfairness.]

How will the Supreme Council be formed under "Team Kim Min-seok," which holds a two-year term and even holds the nomination rights for the 2028 general elections?

Led by leader Kim Min-seok and floor leader Han Byeong-do, a majority of the total nine members—including three elected supreme council members close to the Cheong Wa Dae, two elected supreme council members close to Lee, and two supreme council members designated by leader Kim—are figures close to leader Kim.

Leader Kim has previously stated his intention to entrust one of the designated supreme council positions to the youth generation.

Today, the Democratic Party will hold the new leadership's first Supreme Council meeting, and leader Kim, along with former leaders Chung Cheong-rae and Song Young-gil who competed for the party leadership, will have a dinner at the Cheong Wa Dae at the invitation of President Lee Jae-myung.
