A 24-hour unmanned robot cafe opened in Beijing, China, has set a Guinness World Record by brewing 202 cups of coffee in a single hour.
According to Yangguangwang, an internet affiliate of China Central Television (CCTV), on August 18, Qixian Coffee, an affiliate of Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com, opened the round-the-clock unmanned robot cafe in Beijing on August 16.
Upon its opening, the cafe challenged the Guinness World Record for the "most cups of coffee made by a robot cafe in one hour," successfully brewing 202 cups and receiving official certification.
This translates to making more than three cups of coffee per minute.
The store is characterized by having robots handle the entire coffee-making process, from grinding beans and extracting espresso to cup placement and transfer.
When consumers place an order through the unmanned system, they can watch the coffee-making process in real time via a screen installed in the store.
It also features a function that allows customers to finely adjust the sweetness and coffee strength from 1 to 100 according to their personal preferences.
Qixian Coffee explained that it automated the coffee-making process by combining JD's artificial intelligence (AI) with physical AI technology, which enables physical devices like robots to perceive and act within their surrounding environment.
The company stated that operating the store 24 hours a day without human staff allows for standardized coffee production and significant labor cost reductions.
Qixian Coffee plans to introduce personalized recommendation features in the future, utilizing AI to suggest optimal caffeine intake levels based on consumers' health conditions.
