A man in his 30s who was found slumped and staggering on the street like a zombie has ultimately tested positive for drugs in a detailed hair analysis by the National Forensic Service.

The Suwon Gwonseon Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced today (the 18th) that the detailed hair analysis of the man in his 30s, identified as A, returned a positive result for drugs.

Mr. A had previously been arrested for violating the Narcotics Control Act and subsequently released.

In June, footage spread widely on social media showing a man standing near a bus stop in an apartment complex in Gwonseon-gu, Suwon, with a hunched back and both arms hanging limply for a considerable time.

Netizens raised suspicions of drug use regarding the video, which was circulated under titles such as "Suwon Drug Zombie."

As the controversy grew, police tracked down Mr. A, the individual in the video, on the 23rd of the same month and conducted a preliminary drug test. Following a positive response for philopon (methamphetamine), police placed him under emergency arrest.

However, a twist followed.

The next day, a primary preliminary examination by the National Forensic Service yielded a negative result for drugs, and a subsequent detailed urine analysis by the agency also returned negative.

Mr. A was released and has since been investigated without detention. Through supplementary investigations, police confirmed past circumstances indicating drug use by Mr. A, and ultimately verified the final positive result in today's hair test.

The reason for the conflicting test results lies in the difference in testing methods.

While urine tests typically can only confirm relatively recent drug use, hair tests can track past drug use spanning anywhere from several months to up to a year or more, depending on the length of the hair.

Police plan to summon Mr. A as a suspect soon to conduct additional investigations into the circumstances before reviewing whether to apply for an arrest warrant.
