Minister of Justice Chung Sung-ho submitted his resignation today (Aug. 18).

An official from the Ministry of Justice stated, "Minister Chung formally submitted his resignation this afternoon to the Cheong Wa Dae and the Ministry of Personnel Management in accordance with the relevant procedures."

It is reported that Chung cited health reasons in his resignation letter, along with the explanation that "major legislation related to prosecution reform has been finalized, and it is desirable for the new criminal justice system to be completed under new leadership."

If Chung's resignation is accepted, Vice Minister of Justice Lee Jin-su will serve as Acting Minister.
