Fifteen people, including foreign tourists visiting Busan's Songdo Marine Cable Car, were stung by hornets, prompting an emergency response from fire authorities.
According to the Busan Fire and Disaster Headquarters, a 119 emergency call was received at around 12:00 PM today reporting that people had been stung by hornets near the Songdo Marine Cable Car close to Amnam Park in Seo-gu.
The incident left 15 people stung, including two infants, three children, and ten adults. Among them, 12 were transported to the hospital.
The victims included 11 foreign nationals: five from Taiwan, five from China, and one from Thailand.
Authorities determined that most of the victims were tourists who had arrived to ride the cable car.
Fire authorities cordoned off the accident site and requested that the management office broadcast warning announcements alerting visitors to the dangerous area.
An official from the fire department stated, "A large number of casualties occurred as bees, having been provoked for unknown reasons, flew about."
Fire authorities incinerated and removed a hornet nest measuring about 40 centimeters in diameter located in a tree within Amnam Park.
