Actor Yoo Ah-in is returning to the screen after a hiatus of about three years, starring in the film "Vampire." This marks his return about a year and a half after halting activities following a guilty verdict for habitual drug use.
Investment and distribution company NEW announced on the morning of August 18 that "Vampire" has completed its casting lineup and will begin full-scale shooting in August.
"Vampire" is a mystery occult film depicting events that unfold as an unidentified hitman, commissioned by a clergyman, pursues a mysterious cult group. It is the new project by director Jang Jae-hyun, who has showcased unrivaled storytelling and solid directing skills in every work, including "Exhuma," "Svaha: The Sixth Finger," and "The Priests."
The recent script-reading session was attended by key figures who will lead "Vampire," including director Jang Jae-hyun, Yoo Ah-in, Lee Sung-min, Lee Jun-hyuk, Doi, Yoon Kyung-ho, and Choi Hyun-wook.
Yoo Ah-in plays a hitman chasing a cult group. He is set to portray a bold character who remains unfazed in any situation, but gradually changes as he confronts unidentified entities.
Previously, Yoo Ah-in was sentenced to one year in prison suspended for two years on charges including habitual medical propofol use and marijuana smoking. His probation period runs until July 2027.
Having drawn attention since the casting stage, Yoo Ah-in faces a renewed test amid critical public sentiment. Although there is no dispute over his acting skills, he must overcome negative public opinion regarding his relatively early return through his acting and passion.
Lee Sung-min transforms into a clergyman who breaks taboos for his beliefs. Anchoring the film with his solid acting foundation, he deeply conveys a character agonizing between responsibility and guilt.
Lee Jun-hyuk undergoes a striking transformation as a cultist yearning for eternal life. He is expected to overwhelm the screen by completing a mysterious character with a sharp aura.
Rookie Doi has been cast as the girl wrapped in a veil. Having won the role through a fierce audition, she is expected to radiate fresh energy and leave a strong impression. Yoon Kyung-ho takes on the role of a smuggling broker who ends up accompanying the cult. Yoon will add vitality to the film with his signature realistic acting.
Choi Hyun-wook joins as a U.S. military second lieutenant with a suspicious purpose. He is expected to add tight tension to the film with three-dimensional acting that delicately expresses minute emotions.
Having finalized its main cast and entered full-scale production preparation, director Jang Jae-hyun's new project "Vampire" is scheduled for theatrical release in 2028.
