"Tazza: Song of Beelzebub," the fourth installment in the "Tazza" series, has confirmed its theatrical release for Wednesday, September 23, the day before the start of the Chuseok holiday.
"Tazza: Song of Beelzebub" is a crime film that follows Jang Tae-young (Byun Yo-han), who thought he had the world in his hands through his online casino business, and his close friend of the same name, Park Tae-young (Noh Jae-won), who took everything away from him, as they cross paths again in a global gambling arena for a final showdown of revenge. The film stars Byun Yo-han, Noh Jae-won, Yoon Kyung-ho, and Jo Woo-jin.
This film marks the final installment of the "Tazza" series, which is based on Heo Young-man's original cartoon and celebrates its 20th anniversary. When they met after the film adaptation was confirmed, author Heo Young-man picked "Tazza: Song of Beelzebub" as his favorite story among his entire series.
Director Choi Kook-hee, who helmed the movie, recalled the day by saying, "I remember him asking me why such a great cartoon hadn't been made into a film yet. That made me determined to do an even better job with it."
Unlike the previous three films, "Tazza: Song of Beelzebub" is a work that deeply explores the relationship between two friends. The subtitle "Song of Beelzebub" is taken directly from the original cartoon. Among the works presented over the past 52 years by the nationally popular author Heo Young-man, the "Beelzebub" arc boasts one of the most solid fanbases.
Religious people in medieval Europe considered cards to be instruments of the devil, viewing hearts as desire, diamonds as greed, and clubs as violence. Each of the 13 spade cards, which symbolize death, bears the name of a demon: the Ace of Spades represents Lucifer, the fallen angel cast into hell, and the Two of Spades represents Beelzebub, the former ruler of hell. Among the two devils who staked everything on a gamble, Beelzebub, who lost, was reduced to a blowfly.
Lead actor Noh Jae-won explained the meaning of the title, saying, "The film unfolds as Park Tae-young tells the story of how two devils gambled everything they had against each other, and how Beelzebub, who lost, turned into a blowfly."
The grand finale of the "Tazza" series, "Tazza: Song of Beelzebub," will be available in theaters starting September 23.
